Elementary Grades 1-5

Elementary Grades 1-5

ILG School offers elementary education for Grades 1–5 and follows the U.S.-based Common Core standards. Students enter the first grade at the age of six.

As an international school, the curriculum is adjusted to reflect the international student body. We understand the importance of differentiation in the classroom, and teachers have experience in helping students who are learning in English for the first time.

In the language arts program, ILG School follows the Journeys series, published by Houghton Mifflin.

Journeys offers an integrated model of literacy. Instruction and application focus on four strands, Reading and Literature, including foundational skills, writing, speaking and listening, and Language, which are linked to the complex texts and topics with which students engage.

ILG School's elementary math program follows Everyday Mathematics, developed by the University of Chicago and published by McGraw Hill. Everyday Mathematics emphasizes the importance of number-fact reflexes and provides differentiated instruction that relies on strategies to ensure student success. The program also encourages students to learn multiple solutions for doing math operations so that students can choose the way that works best for them.

In science, ILG School has selected Scott Foresman’s Science, by Pearson. Science studies include four units: life science, earth science, physical science, and space and technology. Students seek to understand the natural world by engaging in projects that will help them understand the link between science and technology.

The elementary students also participate in specialty classes that include physical education, art, music, French, and ICT (computer technology).
